Legal Notification to vacate

I have been renting a home in CA for 3 yrs.  My landlord has been up-front and told me in advance that he was letting the house go into foreclosure, and said I could stay, and so I have...and kept up my rent as normal, and continued to care for it as it were my own.  He notified me once again 2 months ago, to tell me I could stop paying him rent and that I could stay here until I'm told otherwise by the new owners.  The house went to auction 2 weeks ago, and didn't sell.  I believe that IndyMac bought the house back, but  I'm unsure as to how I will be legally notified of my 90 days notice.  Will a certified letter be sent to me, or will they simply post a note on my door?  Also, if I do decide to stay for the 60 or 90 days, is there a formula they use to figure out a new rent?   Thanks for your time.

Does the 90 day notice go into effect when the foreclosed home is SOLD or upon receiving the notification from the new owner or the Bank that bought it?

Not sure you will get any written notice.

Many banks and asset management companies
are poor with communication.

If the property reverted to the lender, they will assign it to a management company, who will post a notice telling you the house has been sold, and notifying you of your rights. If you are a bona fide tenant, unrelated to the seller, you have to be given 90 days notice to vacate. They will both mail this notice to you, as well as post it on your door. Our 90 day notice came from a law firm, so they most definitely have to give you written notice of when your 90 days starts.
