What options do I have for a new home after foreclosure?

My husband owned a home in Chicago that we had trouble paying for after he lost his job in October 2009. He stopped making payments on it and we tried to reduce the mortgage through NACA which was declined. When the bank found that out they started fighting for the house. In February 2010 I found out I was pregnant and wanted to move to Washington State so my parents could see our baby. We wanted to just give the house back but they wouldn't let us. They said we had to try to sell it so we did. In July 2010 we moved into my parents home and left some people we know to watch over the house. Our house did not sell and last month the bank found out we were not there and sold our house in an auction. It's very confusing but I guess the government bought the house. My only concern is now foreclosure is on my husbands record and he has really bad credit now. I have never worked so I have no credit and my name was never on the house. We have too bad of credit to even rent and we now have no home besides living with relatives.
